So, SO thankful to the authors for sending me an ARC of Duskbound!
The first book in the Esprithean series, Riftborne, was one of my top reads for 2024 and I'm basically just waiting for the rest of the world to catch up. When I got the ARC for the second book in the series, Duskbound, I was beyond ecstatic.
Duskbound saw the words "sophmore slump" and stabbed it right in the heart. If anything, I loved it more than Riftborne. It's definitely going to be up there for my top reads of 2025!
I can't say too much without spoiling the first or second books, but I loved where the romance is going. I'm so eager to see what further develops there. The world building is complex and pulls you in without any boggy info-dumping. The politics, the secrets, the reveals! Fia grows so much in this book and I love that the authors have managed to strike such a great balance between being character-driven and plot-driven.
I would recommend Riftborne and Duskbound to fans of:
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
A Fire in the Flesh by Jennifer L. Armentrout
A Dawn of Onyx by Kate Golden
The Courting of Bristol Keats by Mary E. Pearson
The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent
Some tropes you can expect:
Enemies to Lovers
Shadow Daddy
Found Family
He Falls First
Touch Her and Die
Possessive MMC
Secret Magic
Secret Identity
There's also some great LGBTQ+ rep, which I love to see!
